ALL ABOUT MS.KELLER![]() ![]() "Empowering the student is one of the most important responsibilities a teacher has in the classroom." My
name is Brooke Keller; I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
elementary education with a minor in English from SUNY Cortland in
2003. During my junior year of college I was lucky enough to study
abroad in Australia. The summer of my senior year of college my father
and I traveled to Africa to visit my sister who was in the Peace Corps
at the time. I had a touch of the travel bug by the time I graduated
from Cortland, so my sister, best friend and I decided to pack up our
cars and take a road trip to Phoenix Arizona. In the fall of 2004 I
began working on my Master’s degree in reading through Arizona
State University-West. I am currently a first grade teacher at Sullivan
Elementary School.
![]() Empowering the student is one of the most important responsibilities a teacher has in the classroom. I believe that every child has the ability to learn and fulfill every dream he or she may have. As a teacher I have faith in every child. I have high expectations for every one of my students. I lead every child through their journey of learning and exploration of life. Being open minded and keeping students open-minded is key in creating a calm and fair environment for children to learn in. My students and I work together to create a safe and enjoyable classroom. Each person is treated with empathy and caring. My students see school as a place of exploration, a place to share feelings, ideas; a safe and exciting place where he or she is recognized and valued and the human spirit is nurtured and can begin growing. Every child has different needs. However, every child’s needs should be met every day he or she is in school. The learning style of each individual student has a significant impact on how the learning process takes place. Therefore, many different teaching techniques need to be implemented into the classroom. My planning and instruction is based upon motivating students. A variety of sources are implemented into every lesson in order to reach every child.Technology is an amazing tool when used responsibly in a classroom. Technology allows students to use multiple resources to gain more of a global perspective on different topics and subject matter. I use technology along with textbooks, artwork, stories, journals, portfolios and hands-on experiments in order to challenge and deepen the learning experience fall all my diverse learners. As a facilitator I arouse students’ thinking through discussions, productive questioning and encourage students to share their own ideas. Through this process students begin to recognize that they are not only learning from the teacher, but also from one another. I believe that the only successful classroom is one that has ongoing interaction and participation on both the teacher and students parts. |
