Students
ACCEPTABLE USE OF SCHOOL COMPUTERS
The use of computers in school is an essential component in a 21st
Century education. We expect the use of computers to be appropriate
and meaningful to the content of the District curriculum. We will
take every precaution to ensure that your child is not exposed to
inappropriate, illegal, or defamatory sites but recognize that there
is no guarantee that your child will never come into contact with
such sites. The acceptable use of the District's electronic
information services (EIS) requires the use of these resources be in
accordance with the following guidelines, and supports the
educational goals of the district.
Students will be utilizing both email and the Internet. With this
in mind, the following is a list of proper student behaviors using
this technology. Please keep in mind that email and Internet use is
not private.

- training on proper email use will occur before email accounts
are issued
- email among students, staff on campus, and cooperating
corespondents is allowed
- the school rules regarding use of profanity, verbal abuse, and
threatening statements apply to email messages
- students will not:
- access, send or display offensive pictures or messages
- violate copyright laws
- use obscene language
- harass, insult, or attack others
- use another person's account password
Internet/Web Page Use
- training on proper use of the Internet will occur before
students are allowed access the World Wide Web
- to preserve the anonymity of students, each student will be
given an alias for use when student work is placed on our web
- students will only access teacher specified web sites by way
of teacher bookmarks
- students will not:
- access, send or display offensive pictures or messages
- use obscene language
- harass, insult, or attack others
- violate copyright laws
- use another person's account or password
- type in URL without teacher's permission
Students must:
- use technology resources for educational purposes only
- agree not to retrieve or display any inappropriate material,
including material that is defamatory, abusive, obscene, profane,
gang-related, sexually threatening or explicit, racially offensive
or illegal
- not attempt to harm, modify, gain unauthorized access to
district systems or data, destroy software or interfere with
system security
- not reveal names, home addresses, or personal phone numbers
over the Internet
- abide by all copyright regulations, thereby refraining from
plagiarizing or illegally copying copyrighted material.
CONSEQUENCES
Students who are not responsible and who do not follow the
District's policies on the use of the Internet and email may face one
or all of the following penalties. Remember, the use of the Internet
and various technologies offered by the school district is a
privilege, not a right.
Students K-8
- Parent Notification
- Parent Conference
- Loss of Internet and email access
- In-School Suspension
- Suspension from school
- Civil and Criminal Penalties when appropriate

Terms and Conditions on the use of
Electronic Information Services (Please sign and read carefully.)
Acceptable Use
I will use the service to support the
personal educational goals and objectives within the scope of the
objectives of the School District. Inappropriate use may result the
termination of the use of electronic information services (EIS) an/or
appropriate disciplinary action.
The instructional employee
must:
- Use the EIS only for the purposes
of instruction during instructional time.
- Follow all copyright
regulations.
- Agree not to display, submit,
publish, any abusive, obscene, inaccurate, defamatory, profane,
sexually oriented, racially offensive, threatening, or illegal
material.
- Receive prior approval from the
Superintendent for any information or promotion, including, but
not limited to web pages prior to their publication. All such
information becomes the property of the District.
- Agree not to divulge any personal
home numbers or home addresses other than their own.
- Understand that electric mail is
not private and can be accessed and read by select district
personnel.
- Agree not to use the network in
ways that would cause a disruption of its use by other
members.
- Pay fees which result from
purchases and/or the use of services of products not previously
authorized for payment by the district.
- Follow the code of conduct of the
district.
- Agree not to use the EIS for
personal gain, commercial use, or profit.
- Maintain direct supervision of
all the students when the EIS is in use.
- Agree not to attempt to modify,
harm, or destroy software or interfere with the security of the
system.
- Take responsibility for personal
accounts, including the safeguarding of all personal account
information from directly logging on, unauthorized use, and
supervising account activities.
Users may practice and build their
EIS skills through personal use of computers during noncontract time
with students, as well as before and/or after school/work
hours.
The instructional employee
should:
- Use correct mechanics and make
messages easy to understand.
- Respect the rights of others to
participate in the use of the network by not monopolizing the
computer and the system.
Services
The District specifically denies any
responsibility for the accuracy of information. The District will
make an effort to ensure access to proper materials, however, the
user has the ultimate responsibility for how the EIS is used and and
takes on the risk of the currency of data, comprehensiveness, and
relevancy of the information obtained.
I acknowledge that the District has
taken every precaution to ensure the safe use of the EIS and further
acknowledge that any inappropriate information can be accessed if the
user aggressively pursues such information.
I have read and agree to abide to the
District regulations and policy on the use of EIS, as incorporated
herein by reference.
I understand and will abide by the
conditions and provisions indicated. I understand that any violations
of the above conditions and terms may result in disciplinary action
and the loss of privileges to use information services.
