Educational Autobiography

My name is Caroline Indelicato. My educational background started as a young child playing with my sister and cousin. We loved acting as teacher of our treetop school. Being the eldest, I usually assumed the role.

As any good teacher will do, I accepted my students for whom they were. This conviction came from personal experience. I was left-handed and had gotten failing marks in handwriting. My teacher was of the "old school" and made several attempts to change me. As usually happens when ideals are forced upon others, this was a failure.

Throughout my school years, I enjoyed peer tutoring, helping out as a student aide, and membership in the Future Teacher's Club of America. I view these early experiences as stepping stones that eventually lead me to my educational career.

Teaching is my second "adult" career. I worked for 15 years in the medical field in human resources and public relations. This coming year will be my 10th year in the educational field, all in first grade. I love their enthusiasm and spirit; it is very contagious!

I have been associated with Orangewood Elementary School for 9 years. I also did an internship and my student teaching there.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree from ASU-West in Elementary Education, with an emphasis on science. I also hold a Master's Degree from Grand Canyon University, with an emphasis on reading.

I wholeheartedly believe in being a lifelong learner and take courses each year to expand my knowledge and improve my skills. I have been, and currently am, involved in several grant projects through ASU-West focusing on integrated curriculum, technology and math. I also serve as a mentor teacher to ASU-West interns. This fall, I hope to be using some of the knowledge I have gained through these grant projects to help design and implement a web page for Orangewood Elementary School.
