Ezra Jack Keats
Mr. Keats started illustrating other authors' books. He was bothered by the stories that he was illustrating. They were often boring. He didn't see stories with kids acting like real kids. He decided that if he ever wrote a book it would be about things that children really do.
His children do seem real. They are curious and imaginative. He also showed kids growing up in his books. I have noticed this problem with kids around my house. They do grow up. They stay curious and imaginative though.
Write a book about you growing up. Ask your parents for ideas about your younger years. Perhaps you'll be able to imagine what will happen in the next 10 years. Good luck on your book and your next 10 years.
I think these dogs would win a prize even in Mr. Keats' book Pet Show. They could star in any story.
Mr. Keats used so many different ideas to illustrate his books: cut & glue, ink, paint, crayons.
The Crayola Web Page has some fun activities to think about. Try some!
