Mercer Mayer

Mercer Mayer was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 30, 1943. As a child he was fascinated by all sorts of little critters: snakes, turtles, insects, frogs, lizards. He loved to collect them as he explored the woods near his home. I wonder if his parents realized that he was collecting ideas for the books he would write as an adult.

Mr. Mayer writes books using these little animals as characters. His most famous character is the popular "Little Critter." Little Critter has his own web site!

This series is one of the most famous in the United States. His books are always funny and usually provide an important lesson that proves to ideal for discussion.
