Purpose of Access:
Students use technology to enhance learning, increase productivity and creativity, and to collaborate. Students should also be able to solve real-world problems as well as evaluate and analyze information from a variety of sources.Training Before Access:
Staff and students will be trained as to appropriate information for use in the classroom. Criteria will be established to compare and contrast technology systems, resources, and services (e.g. which Internet service providers, Web browser or graphics package meets criteria).Security:
Each school will contain a filtering/blocking system. Filtering systems have been established to protect students from sites that may be inappropriate for viewing. These filtering systems will be monitored on a daily basis by staff and media specialists. Staff will be trained on updating firewalls and checking systems for abusers. Vandalism/harassment will not be tolerated. Offenders will be severely disciplined for their actions.Consequences of noncompliance:
Students and staff who violate the Acceptable Use Policy will lose their technology privileges for one school year. For the second time offender expulsion is inevitable.A Privilege Rather Than A Right:
Use of equipment, e-mail and the Internet are a privilege for both staff and students. Inappropriate use of e-mail, firewalls, and/or the use of verbal/abusive language will result in the loss of privileges.Student/Parent/Teacher Consent:
Each district will propose a contract based on the here stated Accepted Use Policy between Students, their Parents/Guardian, and the Instructor. The contract must contain information on the E-mail and Internet policies. Students will not be allowed into computer labs until the contract is signed and dated by a Parent/Guardian. Please sign and date the contract listed below.Procedures For Use:
- E-mail attachments should contain information pertinent to classroom learning.
- Firewalls will be established to filter out unfit e-mail to safeguard students and staff.
- Students should be able to receive e-mail from parents, other students in the class, and instructors.
- Instructors should be able to receive e-mail from parents, students, and staff.
- Teachers, staff, and students will be trained on e-mail etiquette and proper use of e-mail.
- Chat-rooms will not be utilized in the classroom setting unless it is to obtain pertinent information from respected sites (e.g. NASA, the Jason Project, etc.)
- Teachers may utilize e-mail for staff to staff discussions, to reach parents, and students.
- E-mail etiquette will be used at all times.
Internet
- The purpose of educational web sites is to develop a research strategy to find accurate, relevant, appropriate electronic information.
- The nature of educational websites is to provide a safe forum for parents and teachers to utilize information.
- Students artwork, written work, and Projects with the permission of the parent/guardian will be posted on the website.
- Students and staff pictures and names will not be posted. The privacy and protection of the students is at the forefront of this policy.
- Parents, students, staff, and the community will decide the nature of what is acceptable to place on each website.
- Students and staff are required to adhere to copyrighted materials found on the Internet.
- Internet etiquette will be used at all times.

I have read the Acceptable Use Policy. I release the school district, personnel from any claims and damages of any nature arising from my child's use of, inability to use, the District system. I will discuss with my child the policies and procedures established by this policy. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of following the rules for personal safety.
