Background

It is believed this act of terrorism was fueled by misguided religious fervor. The U.S.'s prime suspect is the elusive 0sama Bin Laden, believed to head the al-Qaeda* terrorist organization and who has allegedly committed several past attacks on the U.S. around the world. The Taliban, an extremist Muslim leadership regime in Afghanistan, protects Bin Laden. They were ordered to hand him over and expose all other terrorist cell participants and activities. The Taliban refused citing religious convictions that prevent them from turning over a guest in their country to non-Muslim adversaries, they consider, "infidels".

"Jihad, Jihad, JIHAD!" (Translated as, Holy War or Struggle), some Afghans gleefully chant in the street. Meanwhile in America, President Bush has declared a global war on terrorism, wherever it may exist, saying, "You can't run and you cannot hide, we will track you down . . . root you out . . . This is an act of war . . .You who commit terror and all those who harbor you will be brought to justice."

*al-Qaeda - a multinational enterprise of small groups of operatives with a messianic vision of an Islamic holy war who act independently of each other. Their agenda is to overthrow superpower supremacy especially in America and Europe.
