Introduction

Have you ever thought to yourself, "Boy, if I were a teacher, I would sure do things differently."

Well, if I know students, and I think I do, EVERYONE has had that thought pass through their mind at some point. If so, then this project is for YOU!!

Welcome to the 21st Century!! Consider yourself part of the 'new' generation of learners, where you will 'construct' your own knowledge by teaching other students. Throw away that old textbook, burn those tired worksheets because now YOU will teach!! Embrace technology -create multimedia presentations including ClarisWorks Slide shows, Power Point presentations, laser discs, video recordings, computer graphics and any other 21st Century technological ideas you can utilize.

The Task

Your team will create, organize and present a complete multimedia lesson regarding a decade's worth of history to your peers.

As a final exam for Social Studies, we will be doing a major class project to learn about four decades of the 20th Century (1950's, 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's). Our class will be divided into two/four groups and each group will be assigned one decade to teach the rest of the students. Your group will also be required to design, administer and grade a test based on your presentation (PS: You will have to ALSO take your OWN group's test).

Your group will have both class periods (90 minutes) to present your decade

Total time

· 40-50 minute presentation

· 20 minute test

· 10 minute evaluation and analysis

Your team will divide and conquer this responsibility!!

First: Assign jobs to team members

(click each name for a complete list of responsibilities)

Second: Assign topics to your reporters

(click each topic for a complete list of objectives/guiding questions for each topic)

Conclusion

You have just completed an incredible amount of work in a short amount of time.....phew!! Looking back, you should feel a real sense of accomplishment for your final lesson.

  • Imagine if you had to produce a lesson for every day - like a TEACHER :) I must say, it is much easier than what you just experienced. As you develop skillls for this type of activity, you become more proficient in creating this type of presentation.
  • If you are considering entering the teaching field, this was a valuable lesson. You learned how to organize and present an body of information and hopefully teach a group of students.
  • If you are considering working in 'corporate America,' you will also be using these skills again. Just be thankful you have a 'jump start' on those who have not done this type of assignment!!

Extension

As you progress through your formal education, whether it be in high school, college and beyond, keep this project in mind. You have developed many talents and skills that will not only help you in school but in your future career as well.

As an extension of this project, write a letter to your next grade teacher (ie: if you are in 7th grade-write to your 8th grade teacher) describing your newly aquired talents and skills. Use this letter as a type of 'cover letter' for your academic resume.
