Notes to the Teacher
for
A 7th Grade WebQuest
Civil
War Personal Journal
Before you embark on this WebQuest journey, it is
important to understand the rationale for using technology in the
classroom. The following link is an essay I wrote, outlining my
thoughts and philosophies regarding this topic.
While
students are participating in this WebQuest, they will meet the
following mandated Arizona
State Standards
. . . click here to view a list of the standards met by completing
this WebQuest.
Other
teacher notes:
- Allow
for ample time with the Computers for research. If you students
are not familiar with using the Internet, I would advise you to
spend some time prior to this WebQuest orienting them to the web.
- Model
the final project you would like them to create. If possible,
write a sample journal letter and have the students analyze what
they like and don't like about the sample. This will help focus
their attention on what is required of them. At this time, you may
use the rubric to model how you will be grading their final
product.
- Collect
the 3 self-evaluation paragraphs and 5 web site evaluations
separate from the journal. I would advise you to grade these items
for a completion grade: if they completed the assignments, I would
give them credit.
- Guide
them through their first day exploring web sites. Remind students
that they should not spend too much time searching and no time
writing. If it is possible, I would recommend that the students
are required to turn something in at the end of each day.
- If you
have the resources, you may want to have your students put their
journals on-line, on a school sponsored web site. Unfortunately,
we do not have this resource available.
