Writing-Essential Skill #1: Use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization grammar and usage, along with varied sentence structure and paragraph organization, to complete effectively a variety of writing tasks.

Technology Standard 1: Students develop the essential technology skills for using and understanding conventional and current tools, materials and processes.

  • Use organizational features of electronic information (e.g., microfiche headings and numbering; headings for accessing nested information in hypertext media,electronic media, library, interlibrary catalog databases)
  • Evaluate the quality and performance of a product, e.g., performance test a technology device
  • Evaluate the operation of a technology device and correct any malfunctions (e.g.,adjust paper feed on printer, check electric power source/connection)
  • Examine information from electronic media and determine its correctness and worth
  • Identify copyright laws that pertain to technology and apply them appropriately
  • Understand the "Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia" regarding using audio, video and electronic media

Technology Standard 2: Students know how to solve problems by using current technologies to conduct research, analyze solutions and present results.

  • Compose and edit a multipage document with appropriate formatting (e.g., margins,tabs, spacing, columns, page orientation) at the keyboard, using word-processing skills, writing process steps, and principles of design
  • Plan, produce, and present a multimedia presentation (using a wide range of visual media) that is tailored to an audience and clearly communicates its purpose
  • Cite resources (e.g., bibliography, reference list) in written documents and presentations
  • Use software features (e.g., spelling checker, grammar checker)

 

Workplace Skills Standard #3: Students apply critical and creative thinking skills to make decisions and solve workplace problems.

  • Utilize information acquired from several sources and transfer information learned in one situation to another
  • Devise and implementing a plan of action by specifying goals and constraints
  • Generate alternatives, consider risks, evaluate and choose solutions
  • Monitor progress and make adjustments to meet stated objectives
  • Reflect on the action taken to determine what has been gained, lost or achieved
  • Identify a need for data, obtain it and develop a validation instrument for determining its accuracy

Workplace Skills Standard # 4: Students work individually and collaboratively within team settings to accomplish objectives.
