Introduction

Today's teens certainly have a different lifestyle than teens did 20 years ago. They live in fast times with fast paced lives. Many families do not plan, prepare and eat meals together due to work and responsibility schedules. Teens find themselves eating on the run and fending for themselves all too often. Prevention programs have been created for tabacco, gangs, drugs alcohol, etc. Over the next 50 years a "fast food" lifestyle will cause many health problems including heart disease, strokes, stomach disorders, etc. A prevention plan for making wiser choices regarding on-the-go eating must be addressed. Better choices should start now in a teen's daily diet to ensure a healthy long life.

The Task

As a "Foods & Nutrition" class, you have been asked to assist the students in your high school by researching the "Fast Food" life style and preparing a reference guide to assist students in making wise decisions regarding on-the-go eating and a prevention campaign to be adopted by your school. Teens may have little control over their lifestyle, but with a little guidance, they may be able to make wiser choices. Your job then will be to creatively sell your fellow teens on the idea of healthy on-the-go choices for a healthy life.

In order to complete the project, you will need to answer the following questions.

Conclusion

As a result of this webquest, you will have discovered the components of a healthy diet, what conditions/diseases can be the result of poor nutrition, and how fast food and on-the-eating impacts a healthy diet. You should be aware of the food pyramid and what types of food and quantities are needed for better nutrition. You should have a working knowledge of calorie needs for teens that coincide with healthy eating. You also learned how to analyze and modify eating habits regarding fast foods. Finally, you examined your own eating habits to determine if you eat a healthy diet and if not what modifications you can make. Prevention of poor food choices is a life time process. Continue to evaluate your eating habits and work towards healthier living.
