1. Select Topic Select ONE of the following study skills to focus on: · Note Taking · Test Taking · Time Management · Overcoming Procrastination · Setting Up a Study Area · Improving Reading and Comprehension · Acronyms and Mnemonics 2. Gather Information Use the links that are identified for the particular skill that you are working on. Look at each site and read the information. Using the sample below, draw the chart on a sheet of paper. Compare which information is repeated on the different sites and which information is only found in one place.
The information that you collect should be able to answer the following questions: Why should I use this skill? How will this skill help me? What are the steps for doing/using this skill? What are examples of times when this skill would be useful?
3. Pamphlet / Reference Sheet Design your pamphlet or reference sheet using the information that you have learned about the study skill that you are working on. Keep in mind that you are developing this for other students to keep in their notebooks. It needs to be easy to understand. Make sure that you include your references. Create a simple draft and have it approved by the teacher before spending a large amount of time on the project.
4. Newspaper Ad You are creating a small feature for the school paper. You need a title that will attract attention - something more than "Study Skills." The body needs to be concise and easy to understand. Offer names, phone numbers, and/or web sites that students can contact if they are in need of help studying or doing homework.
5. Poster You will generate a poster to be displayed in the classroom. This poster will help students remember to use the skill and how to use it. Make a draft on paper and have it approved by the teacher before putting it on the poster board.
6. Presentation You will need to cover each of the following when you present your project to the class: Name of the study skill you worked on Why this skill is important How this skill can help you How you use or do the skill Explain each of the products and how they were created
