Arizona became a state during the progressive era in American history. The main idea of the progressives was to make government more responsive to the needs of the people and address the problems brought about by the rapid growth of the economy in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

The biographer will need to research important politicians and statemen of the era. The historian will help the group with some key ideas and philosophies of government and the navigator will help the group see geographically the issue of joint statehood with New Mexico and the battle over the location for the new State Capitol.
