In the early 1800's President Thomas Jefferson and the United States purchased a large area of land from France commonly known as the Louisiana Purchase.

President Jefferson sent expeditions to chart and study this new land. Lewis & Clark and Zebulan Pike were among the explorers sent.

The biographer needs to research the explorers and the historian should find out about the expeditions and what they discovered. The navigator should become an expert on the routes these explorers used and the reasons for these travel routes.
