You must retrieve the clues
to your assignment by recruiting your classmates in song and story.

You'll receive your instructions
from your teacher. So listen
carefully! Your first clue
is in the story What's Inside the Egg? by Garelick M. Your
teacher will read
you the
story. Once you have started the journey you'll find your next clue
in the sing along "I'm a Little Chick"
(sung to "I'm a Little Teapot") in English and "Los Pollitos"
in Spanish. Now you have 2 clues!
Next your teacher will guide the class through a chick
hatching video on the Internet. When the chick
hatched,
was it wet or dry? Now that you have 3 clues
you can make your own chick
hatching
sequence book. Congratulations! You have successfully completed this
phase of the investigation. You now have enough information to draw
and write your own incredible story about chicks.
Use your imagination and clues
to
make your story either fiction or non-fiction. Your chance to finish
your mission is in your last activity. You are to explore marked
websites that will take you into the world of chicks
on the Internet.

Students will be encouraged to observe
and record the actual hatching and development of several chick
eggs that are incubating in the classroom. Children will continue
to read
more literature about
chicks
and
their development, their habitat and their basic needs. Children
will also do population study using graphs and measurements when the chicks
hatch.
