Acceptable Use Policy

MR. BLOOM, MR. HUDDLESON, MRS. SILCOX, MRS. URTON

[NOTE: THIS POLICY IS INTENDED TO INFORM STUDENTS AND PARENTS OF THE CORRECT AND PROPER USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THIS CLASS. IT SUPPORTS AND SUPPLEMENTS, BUT DOES NOT SUPERSEDE, THE DISTRICT ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY.]

Dear Parent and Student:

In our classes, we are committed to providing the student with access to technology and resources aimed at providing rich and effective educational experiences. We believe that the valuable information and interactions available through computer network communications are essential to such experiences and far outweigh the small percentage of materials not consistent with educational goals.

As global communication tools become more accessible, it is critical that individual users understand both the benefits and the responsibilities of utilizing a growing collection of resources. Although our district has taken precautions to restrict access to controversial materials, it is impossible on a global network to control all access. In addition, as students may have access to the communications network at home, we cannot be responsible for supervising or restricting access to controversial materials on the network.

Before any student will be given access to the district's computer resources in this class, the student must first complete and return the "User Application and Waiver" form (attached), with all proper signatures. This Waiver Form acknowledges that the teacher, school, and/or district are not responsible for unauthorized or improper access or use of the district's computer network communications service. Furthermore, the student must have properly completed and returned the district "Electronic Information Resource School/ Student-User Contract."

To maximize the benefits of the technological resources available, and to avoid abuse or access to inappropriate information and services, we have adopted the following "Acceptable Use" policy:

Student Internet Access

All students will have access to Internet World Wide Web information resources through their classroom, library, or school computer lab. Student-created Web pages will require teacher and administrative approval. Web pages must relate to school, club, or career preparation activities.

Specifically Acceptable Uses

Specifically Unacceptable Uses

Please remember: The fact that you can do something or think you can do something without getting caught does not make it right to do so.

Student Rights/ Due Process

The district and school will cooperate fully with local, state, or federal officials in any investigation related to illegal activities conducted through the system.

In the event that the student violates this or the district policy regarding use of the internet, disciplinary action will be taken per district policy. All due process rights of the student will be observed.

Limitation of Liability

The district makes no guarantee that the functions or the services provided by or through the district system will be error-free or without defect. The district will not be responsible for any damage you may suffer, including but not limited to, loss of data or interruptions of service. The district is not responsible for the accuracy or quality of the information obtained through or stored on the system. The district will not be responsible for financial obligations arising through unauthorized use of the system.

Use of Student-Produced Materials

The teacher may post student produced work (including written work, art, computer-generated work, and student performances) for non-profit, educational purposes. The teacher may also post pictures of students to accompany their work. In all such cases, students will be identified by first name and last initial.
