HERE'S THE DIRT...

Hi! I'm Ms. Horgeshimer.

Here's a little of who I am, where I come from, and what I'm all about.

I am originally from a suburb of Chicago, but I've been in the Phoenix area since 1977. I am a graduate of Xavier High School in Phoenix, Arizona.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. My field of study was History and I actually have an extended History degree. (This is my brick from the Centennial Clock Tower and Walkway at NAU.)

After substitute teaching for a semester, I decided that I was not ready for a teaching career yet. I moved into the corporate sector and worked for a major golf club manufacturer for several years. Soon, I realized that I was truly called to be a teacher and returned to substitute teaching until a permanent position opened up.

I was hired by the Diocese of Phoenix in 1996 and taught Seventh and Eighth grade students at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Scottsdale for four years.  While I was there, I taught American History, Religion, and English.  I was also the Student Council Moderator.

In 1999, I received my Master of Education from Northern Arizona University and studied Educational Leadership. I have not yet started my classes for principal certification, but I will eventually go back for that.

I've now found a new home at Thunderbird High School. During my first year here, I taught World and United States History. The 2001-2002 school year was a challenging one, but it was a fantastic experience. I taught United States Government, World History, and Leadership (Student Council). Thunderbird has really become home to me and I'm very grateful for the opportunities I have been given here.

Being the perpetual student, I have started a Masters program at Arizona State University West and will graduate in May 2002. And, who knows, maybe a doctorial program is in my near future.

"NEVER STOP LEARNING!"

NAU Graduation 1999

My personal mission statement:

As an educator, I am challenged to provide
my students with the opportunity to go beyond
what they believe they can accomplish, to
reach higher, and achieve success on
his or her personal level.

It is my duty and responsibility to
treat all students fairly.

I will challenge my students to be the
best people that they can be and assume
their role as active members of a larger society.
