The National Year of Reading Teachers and Librarians Reading is big in the UK also! This British site encourages adults to read and read to their children. Read Across America Teachers and Librarians Here's a chance to participate in a national (American) effort to encourage adults to read to children. America Reads Challenge: Ready Set Read Early Childhood Learning Kit Grade Pre-K-3 Teachers and Parents Ready Set Read activity guides for families and caregivers provide ideas to help young ones learn about language with age appropriate activities. Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site Elementary Grade Teachers This site contains a collection of reviews of books for children, lesson plans,teaching ideas and activities. Children's Literature Web Guide Teachers and Parents ALA best books are listed along with Internet book discussions, and resources for storytellers, teachers and parents. Also included are specific teaching ideas, indexes of research guides and publishers. Doucette Library of Teaching Resources Grades K-8 University of Calgary's extensive collection of literary lists, award winners, curriculum supplements and support resources for children's literature. First Grade Backpack - Reading Grades 1-3 Here's a selection of book and author sites compiled expressly for primary students. Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts Grades 3-12 Includes translations of many Germanic-rooted myths, legends and stories. Also gives many additional links to other tales and legends. Excellent source for comparison studies of specific tales such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, etc. Fun School. Com Grades K-2 Here is a memory intensive site with games and activities for all of your students K-2. Activities are divided by grade level, but there is a lot of cross over so check them all out. Interactive activities involving reading, math, science and social studies. Cyber Jacques' Cyber Seas Treasure Hunt Grades K-6 On line games that are so fun. You need Shockwave on your computer and can download it free. This site is filled with fun games to challenge any age! Memory Matching, Fish, Hangman, What's Inside and more. Children's Literature Resources on the World Wide Web Grades K-12 This is a nice site filled with resources for children's Literature for grades K - 12. Shared Reading for Kindergarten Grades K-1 Teachers This site has all kinds of information on shared reading, including several links about the subject.

A - Apple Pie: An Old-Fashioned Alphabet Book Grades K-2 A page by page reproduction of the 1886 alphabet book by Kate Greenaway. Lost Moose Alphabet Book Grades K-2 An alphabet book with lots of words, which begin with each letter as the graphic, comes up. Fun site and lots of good reading as you go through the letters. Critter's ABCs Grades K-2 Animals match the letters of the alphabet A is for Angelfish Grades K-2 Another great site for pictures that correspond to the alphabet Animal Alphabet Grades K-2 Children can learn all about animals while they learn the alphabet Alphabet Action Grades K-2 When children click on a letter they can hear its and and see a picture that corresponds to the letter. Animated Alphabet Grades K-2 The pictures that go with each letter are animated.

It includes information about the author as well as her books Judy Blume's Home Base Elementary through Adult This is the homepage of well-known author, Judy Blume. It is a treasure chest for Judy Blume fans! Authors of Children's Books Grades K-8 Dr. Christie's students developed quite a few author studies. Great resource for a multitude of children's authors! Eric Carle's Site Grades Pre-K - 2 This site provides a listing of Eric Carle's upcoming books. Teacher exchanges of ideas for Carle's books are also included. The site includes an author biography, newsletter and selection of frequently asked questions. John Bianchi and Frank B. Edwards: Bungalo Books Grades 1-5 This is a wonderful site for lovers of all the series published by Bungalo Books. Karleen Bradford Grades 3 to Adult Karleen Bradford is a well-known Canadian author. Her books include Fantasy, historical fiction and contemporary novels for young adults. Beverly Cleary's Site Grades 3-6 The site includes great information on this popular author, including a biography, book lists. CyberSuess Grades K-2 Dr. Suess Page: A collection of many favorite stories, information about the author, and large print stories online. Arthur Books by Marc Brown Grades K-3 Find lots of activities to do with Arthur. This page has writing activities, and suggested projects with books. You can have the class write to Arthur. Jan Brett's HomePage Grades K-4 Find information about why and how she wrote all of her books. This is a model site! Here are lessons and activities to do with each of her books, pictures to print out, puppets, and art tips. A must see. You will want to do an author study on Jan Brett for weeks. Lewis Carroll's Home Page Grades 2-8 Lewis Carroll is best known for his Alice In Wonderland books Roald Dahl Home Page Grades 3-8 This website is dedicated to Roald Dahl (1916&endash;1990), one of the world's most beloved children's authors. Tommie DePaola Grades K-6 A web site "devoted" to Tomie dePaola Mem Fox's Web Site Grades K-4 Mem Fox has a wonderful web site full of all kinds of information about her books. ALA Editors' Choice Revisited Grades K-12 This is the ALA's booklist. The list is categorized by reading level and by fiction/nonfiction. A synopsis of the title and bibliographic information is included. Berit's Best Sites for Children Grades K-8 This web site reviews children's books. If you are looking for something new to read to a class this site has some good ideas.

Online Children's Stories All Grade Levels There are a lot of stories available on the Internet to read or download. Some of them are from well-known books, others can be found only online. Aseop's Fables Grades 3-12 Students can read many of Aseop's fables online Realistic Wonder Society Grades 4-12 Current popular authors contribute text and illustrations to bring the books to life. Many stories, including chapter books, fairy tales and picture books. This page is continually growing. Rebus Rhymes Grades Pre-K-2 Rebus Rhymes is designed for children who are learning how to read. Preschoolers and Kindergartners enjoy picking out the words they can read in their favorite nursery rhymes. Koala Bear's Troubles Grades K-3 Posted by the dad of Alex Balson, a 5 year old in Australia. This site is growing and interesting. Vocal Point Grades 4-12 This is a unique, student-driven, collaborative electronic newspaper. It is designed, managed, created, and maintained entirely by student volunteers. Make Hearts Sing Grades K-6 This is a super site with new, old and retold stories for children. Each story has a moral as well as an interesting plot and story line.
