Why use Technology?

Using technology in the classroom is becoming part of our world. As a teacher, what I have to do is to lead students to become successful participants in their world. Technology is the tool that we can use to help achieve our educational goals. Through the use of technology, students are helped to be successful participants in the world. The classroom is no longer away from the world. By using technology, students can communicate with all kinds of people.

Technology has to be used in the classroom. Students who have grown up with technology can be life long learners because things are changed every day. The teacher needs to create a variety of learning experiences to reach the students' need. Technology can be supplement classroom instruction by allowing students to interact with information. Utilizing technology makes a single teacher employ many more resources and methods within one classrooms, rather than teaching the information in one manner. To employ technology successfully in the classroom, it should incorporate with curriculum. It is the teacher's role to develop curriculum. In the past, teacher's role was to be responsible for transmitting information to students. The students' important responsibility was to memorize information. However, for a student to be successful in today's class, they must be able to assess and analyze information. Internet is changing the way students learn and the way a few innovative teachers teach. As teachers, we must realize this fact and adjust our curriculum implementing technology. The teacher who is using technology in the classroom provides various ideas, lessons, and resources in a manner of seconds. Computers with Internet enable teachers to open the classroom into the sea of information for questioning and searching. There is no problem for lack of teaching materials or new ideas to get students interested.

Students get lots of information or get helped by accessing the Internet. The Internet gives students chances to develop their critical thinking skills, collaborative learning as groups, and integrative subjects with the curriculum. Using Technology make students engage in authentic learning experiences that help them make sense of their changing world. It is essential for them that they develop the skills to prepare for the challenges ahead.

It is time for the teacher to embrace the fact that Technology is a new way of teaching and learning, rather than threat. Technology classes are a part of the curriculum in these days. It means Technology is becoming integration in the school. It does not mean placing a computer in the corner of the classroom and leaving it un-touched all the year. We have to ask people not Why use Technology?, but How use Technology?
