Student Activities
The following are great sites to explore and most contain activities and problems for you to do. Some even contain Brain Teasers and places for you to send in questions of your own, so have fun and enjoy yourself. The activities are organized below in sections to make it easier for you to get around.

Mainly Math

National Geographic World- Explore this site then plan a short, 3 minute, presentation to tell others what you can do and learn about by using this site!
Ask Dr. Math- Lots to do and explore! Submit some questions of your own to Dr. Math. Try to do some of the problems that others have submitted. You'll find some great word problems at this site!
The Education Place by Houghton Mifflin- This site has 3 different subject area with lots of links to libraries, projects and things just for kids- - like Brain Teasers,
- Word Finds,
- Geonet- a planet game,
- Wacky Web Tales & more.
Math Website for Kids in Grades 5-8= This site has Activities & Connections to some more great Math Sites.
Cuisenaire-Kid's Place= Lots of great problems and activities! Good Luck! Aslo links to other cool kids sites, Science stuff, and some great Interactive Sites!
Disney- here are some activities to do at this site, it's also fun to explore though!
1) Go to the Where to Stay section and plan a trip.
For your trip plan to stay one week, come up with the resort you will stay at and the cost of a 7 day stay. Use your real family for the number of people in your family so keep in mind the number of rooms you will need, size, and the type of hotel your real family would like to stay. Do this for at least 2 different hotels and compare the prices. Come up with a written reccomendation as to where your family should stay and why.
2) Go to the Special Events section and determine what month would be best to visit Disneyland. Which month has the most events? Which month has the events that you think would be the most fun & why?
Peg Game- go to this site and read the directions to play the peg game. You can play against the oomputer! Have Fun! Try and make a real peg game using materials from school or home and teach it to a friend in your class.
Sea World- While you are exploring this site here are some activities for you
1) Find out the weights of at least 4 of the animals at Sea World and compare your weight with theirs. - Find out things like- How many of you would it take to equal the weight of each animal?
- Make a chart or graph showing the weights of you and each of the different animals.
- How do the weights of the animals compare with weights of different peoples pets in your class or neighborhood.
Go to the Career Section and find out what it takes to get into a career working with Sea Animals.
Complete an Animal Quiz and Print it out.
Come up with some questions and send them into Ask Shamu!
The Logic Classroom- Solve some of the logic puzzlers and print them out for others to try and solve!
Uncle Bob's Kids Page- Great Site, you could explore and do activities here for hours! Try some projects and explore some of the sites that look interesting!

ART

Lite Brite Page- explore and create a picture by yourself or with a friend. You could also create a picture explaining or extending a math concept or problem- but most of all Have Fun!
Art/Math Transformations- Examine the symmetry in M.C.Escher's work. Follow the sequence of activities to do and solve, be sure to record your solutions and any info. you use along the way!

Literature

Children's Literature Web Guide- Great place to check out!
Activities-- Find a list of interesting books about any subject you're interested in.

- Locate other books by your favorite author.

- Locate book reviews of a book you or your classmates are reading. Write a review of the book yourself and post it on your schools web page.

- Research some info. about the author of a book you've read and enjoyed. Look at the info. they chose to include about the author and then write an author page for yourself or someone else in your class and include it in the next piece of writing you publish as the "About the Author Page".
Math Curse- A site dedicated to the new book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith, the author's of The Stinky Cheese Man.
