Parent and Student Agreement Students at Sunnyslope High School now have access to the Internet, a global matrix billions of computers connected by telephone lines and cables. Connecting billions of people worldwide each day; the Internet is a data highway that carries the freight of the information age, including electronic mail, digital video, applications, technical support, software, sound and traditional text documents. This resource contains some information that may not be appropriate for high school students. The Glendale Union High School District has gone to great lengths to close off most of those inappropriate places, but we must ensure that our students act responsibly regarding its use. TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1. Privileges. The use of computers and the information system is a privilege, not a right and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges. Each person who receives a specific user account (which includes a "login" name) will participate in a discussion with a GUHSD faculty member as to proper behavior and use of the network. The System Administrator will decide what is appropriate use and his/her decision is final. The System Administrator may close an account at any time if necessary. The administration, staff, or faculty may request that the System Administrator deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts. 2. Personal Responsibility. As a representative of Sunnyslope High School, you accept personal responsibility for reporting any misuse of the network to the System Administrator. Misuse can come in many forms, but it is commonly viewed as any messages sent or received that indicate or suggest pornography, unethical or illegal solicitation, racism, sexism, inappropriate language, and other issues described below. All rules of conduct described in the Student Handbook apply when you are on the network. 3. Acceptable Use. The use of your assigned account must be in support of education and research and within the educational goals and objectives of the GUHSD. a. Transmission of any material in violation of any United States of other State organizations is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. 4. Network Etiquette. You are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette. These rules include, but are not limited to the following: a. Be polite. 5. Security. If you identify a security problem, notify the System Administrator at once. Never demonstrate the problem to other users. Never use another individuals account. Any security risk will be denied access to the information system. 6. Vandalism. Any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data, hardware or software of another user or of any other agencies or networks that are connected to the system will result in the loss of computer services, disciplinary action, and possible legal referral. this includes, but is not limited to the uploading or creation of computer viruses. I understand and will abide by the provisions and conditions of this contract. I understand that any violations of the contract provisions may result in disciplinary action and the revoking of my user account. I understand that all the rules of conduct described in the Student Handbook apply when I am on the network or any computer.
