Teaching Resource Library
Acceptable Use Policy

Students must abide by all university guidelines as stated in the ASU AUP.

While in the library, you must also abide by the following policies. Failure to do so can result in, but not be limited to, loss of privileges and removal from the class.

Educational Purpose

The College of Teacher Education and Leadership Teaching Resource Library has been established for a limited educational purpose to support the students, faculty and staff of the College of Teacher Education and Leadership at ASU at the West campus with their academics and field experiences. The system is not a public access service or a public forum. You are expected to follow the policies set forth by this policy as well as the university policy, student handbook, and the law.

  • Materials are for educational use. Books, videos, software and other media are for the purpose of teaching learning about curriculum and educational materials.
  •
  • Workstations are for educational use. If a workstation is being used for personal communications or entertainment, or for internet browsing unrelated to academic courses or field experience, the user can be asked to vacate the workstation when those needing to complete educational projects need them.

Access

  • The workstations, as well as the network, are ASU property, and users should be aware that ASU reserves the right to monitor and investigate use for illegal activity without the user's consent or knowledge. (In accordance with university policy.)
  • Library staff  offer limited assistance and instruction on using the available software and Internet browsers for projects. ASU and affiliates including staff cannot be held responsible for content or resources other than those we have developed, such as the CTEL server homepages.
  • While using the internet, users should be aware of and respect others that do not wish to be exposed to offensive material. Users should not openly display content that can create a hostile environment for other users.
  • Student files should be saved to an appropriate format, such as a jump drive, writable CD, or DVD. Files may  also be uploaded to the student's personal web account. While it is possible to save data to the desktop or to the hard drive of the computer, it is not recommended because data is regularly deleted from the library computers.

Prohibited Material and Unlawful Use

  • Sending unsolicited emails (spam) is prohibited by law and will result in loss of privileges in the library and a possible suspension of your ASU email account.
  • No programs may be downloaded to the computers. If a new plug-in is required for viewing or using an item, the student may ask the library manager or staff if there is a computer with that plug-in available or the library manager may determine if it is safe to download. Violation of this policy will result in a loss of computing privileges.
  • Webpages uploaded on the ASU server must comply with the university guidelines. The use of pornographic materials or posting of items which are intended to promote bias in terms of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation are expressly prohibited and will result in the site being removed from the server as well as loss of computing privileges.
  • Child pornography is illegal - if a user views such material, a library staff member will contact DPS immediately. Offenders can be prosecuted in accordance with applicable state and federal law.
  • If you mistakenly access inappropriate information, you should immediately disclose this access to the instructor, or to the library staff. The determination of whether material is appropriate or inappropriate is based on the content of the material and the intended use of the material.
  • Users may not use workstations for illegal activities or tamper with workstation systems, software, hardware or operating systems. Any attempt to “hack” or perform an illegal act will be reported immediately to the campus police (DPS) and offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with applicable state and federal law.

All students, faculty and staff must abide by all university policies.
